Proverbs 29:18 is similar to Hosea 6:4 in both, the Lord connects vision and perishing. While it is good for leaders to communicate vision, Proverbs 29:18 is not talking about a leader’s vision. ![]() ![]() This wording fits nicely for those who want to persuade others regarding the need for a vision statement. Meditateĭo you see visions as in Proverbs 29:18? Apply the Word The KJV version reads, Where there is no vision, the people perish. Without this vision, we can be sure we will perish-suffer, be defeated, struggle, be baffled by the issues of life, etc. In the early years of my Christian experience, I heard some messages on Proverbs 29:18: Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he (KJV NASB also uses vision). Vision in Proverbs 29:18 to the believer in Christ today is the knowledge and understanding of God, His will, and purposes for their life revealed in the scriptures. Although God still uses prophets today, the role of prophets has shifted. Throughout history, God has used a variety of means to communicate with His people: through the prophets to Israel, through Jesus during His lifetime, through twelve apostles to the early Church, and through the Bible to us today(Hebrews 1:1-2). Does this verse mean we should look for someone with the prophetic gift or office to hear God and see a vision today? Even when God spoke audibly to a prophet, it was still considered as having been seen in the form of a vision – understanding the message from God.Īfter grasping the concept of “vision,” our next step is to figure out how it can be applied to us today(application). Moreover, it is noteworthy that God’s communication was referred to as a vision regardless of the means by which the prophets received it. It is crucial to note that vision in Proverbs 29:18 d oes not mean our dreams or goals (a different sense of the term vision). 2 And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. Taking a leap, really trying means facing fear, and most importantly, finding out if we are ALL THAT, and finding out for real can be scary. It is BS, and you know it, and yes, I know it too. I know, life sometimes gets in the way: the job, the kids, the family and so on… The reality is most of the time is much easier to pretend that we could have been something, somebody but some external factor (whatever excuse is more suitable at the time) stopped us….
